SNUH Professor Moon Ji-yeon Receives International Scholar Award from the Vagus Nerve Society

"I believe that what is more important than techniques to reduce pain is the heart to empathize with suffering."
This one statement from Professor Moon Ji-yeon of the Department of Anesthesiology and Pain Medicine at Seoul National University Hospital (SNUH) contains her sincerity towards medicine and humanity.
Recently, Professor Moon received the 'International Scholar Award' at the Business of Pain Conference hosted by the Vagus Nerve Society (VNS) in the United States,
once again raising the status of Korean pain medicine on the world stage.

Professor Moon Ji-yeon of the Department of Anesthesiology and Pain Medicine at Seoul National University Hospital received the International Scholar Award at the Business of Pain Conference hosted by the Vagus Nerve Society.
The Vagus Nerve Society (VNS) is a multidisciplinary society established to research and educate on the latest pain-related treatments. Since last year, it has been presenting the International Scholar Award to one overseas researcher who has made outstanding contributions to research and international academic exchange in the field of pain treatment.
Professor Moon, who received the 2nd International Scholar Award this year, has published more than 100 SCI papers in world-renowned medical journals such as The Lancet and Anesthesiology. In particular, she conducted various studies related to pain treatment, including the effect of botulinum toxin A sympathetic nerve injection in patients with complex regional pain syndrome (CRPS), the efficacy and safety of intravenous lidocaine infusion therapy for neuropathic pain, and the analysis of the advantages and disadvantages of ultrasound-guided procedures in pain medicine.
In addition to research, she serves as a member of the Professional Qualification Certification Registration Committee at the World Institute of Pain (WIP) and the Secretary-General of the Complex Regional Pain Syndrome Committee at the International Association for the Study of Pain (IASP), and actively contributes to international academic exchange as an international director of the Korean Pain Society.
Professor Moon Ji-yeon (Department of Anesthesiology and Pain Medicine) said, "I believe that the essence of pain medicine is not simply a technique to reduce pain, but a combination of love for medicine and humanity that empathizes with the patient's suffering and restores their quality of life." She added, "I will continue to do my best to ensure that Korean pain medicine plays an even greater role on the world stage through patient-centered integrated medical care and international education and research cooperation."
